STCP buys 30 electric buses and a charging station from CaetanoBus

Data reveals that the total value of the awarded contract stands at €11,669,850 for 30 fully electric CaetanoBus vehicles and the installation of a charging station at the Via Norte bus depot.

The new charging station, to include 15 dual chargers, is set to be installed by January 30, 2026. The delivery of the new buses (standard 12-meter type with an approximate range of 320 km) will occur gradually between February and March 2026, the transport company stated.

The new buses will replace aging buses as part of ongoing fleet renewal plans at STCP.

The 30 additional buses will join the 68 electric buses already in operation and 28 others (20 standard and 8 mini) soon to reinforce STCP’s fleet, aiming for annual reductions in CO2 emissions and more efficient public service both environmentally and economically.

The public tender for these vehicles was relaunched on June 5 with a maximum value of €12.9 million, after a previous attempt in January yielded no results.

STCP provides exclusive road passenger public transport services within the Porto municipality and general concession services in surrounding municipalities — Gondomar, Matosinhos, Maia, Valongo, and Vila Nova de Gaia.

The Porto municipality holds the majority share in the inter-municipal company (53.69%), with remaining shares distributed among the other five municipalities where STCP operates: Vila Nova de Gaia (12.04%), Matosinhos (11.98%), Maia (9.61%), Gondomar (7.28%), and Valongo (5.40%).
