A 53-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday after stealing a woman’s mobile phone while she was playing piano in the Avenidas Novas district of Lisbon, as reported by the Public Security Police (PSP).
In a statement sent to newsrooms, the authority clarified that they became aware of an “individual detained for committing a crime.”
Upon arriving at the scene, officers determined that the suspect had committed robbery against a woman. She was “playing the piano at the subway station when the suspect approached and reached into her pants pocket, stealing her mobile phone.”
The victim resisted, but the suspect pushed her and fled the scene.
“Subsequently, the woman checked the location of her mobile phone using another device, contacted security personnel at the location identified by the tracker, who then accompanied the victim and intercepted the suspect. He was unmistakably recognized as the perpetrator of the crime and voluntarily returned the phone,” the PSP added.
A PSP patrol car was dispatched immediately to the location and confirmed the crime. The mobile phone, according to the victim, is valued at approximately 600 euros.
Following his first judicial hearing, the suspect was subjected to daily reporting as a coercive measure.
