China called on the United States this Friday to make “efforts” to achieve a “positive outcome based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit,” as the trade truce between the world’s two largest economies is set to expire.
“We hope the U.S. collaborates with China to fulfill the important consensus reached between the two heads of state, takes advantage of the established economic and trade consultation mechanism, and strives for a positive outcome based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit,” said the spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
In May, both parties agreed in Geneva, Switzerland, to the current truce, which ends this Tuesday, envisioning a 115 percentage point reduction in tariffs applied since the beginning of April, which effectively resulted in a trade embargo.
