A 27-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday in Maceira, a locality in the Leiria municipality, on suspicion of a snatch theft in a public area, the National Republican Guard (GNR) reported on Friday.
In a statement, the Leiria Territorial Command explained that, as part of an investigation into such crimes, the Guard’s officers conducted police actions which led to “the execution of a house search warrant in Martingança, Alcobaça, and an arrest warrant in Maceira, where the individual was located and detained.”
During this operation, a piece of gold-colored metal chain, 18 centimeters long, was seized, “which may correspond to the gold chain stolen from the victims, two men aged 16 and 48, in the public area.”
The detainee has a criminal history involving various offenses against property and individuals and has previously served a prison sentence for similar offenses. On October 23, he was presented to the Leiria Judicial Court, where he was remanded in custody pending trial.
