The Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) recovered a stolen vehicle in the Arroios area of Lisbon in the early hours of Wednesday, October 8.
In a statement, the PSP explained that the vehicle was recovered before the owner had even filed a complaint, during a routine patrol operation.
“Officers noticed a vehicle making an irregular maneuver upon spotting the police presence and subsequently fleeing,” the statement read.
As a result, “stop orders were issued” and the PSP vehicle’s “lights and sirens were activated,” but “the driver did not comply.”
“After discreet tracking through various city streets, the vehicle was found abandoned, with signs of forced ignition. Given the strong indications of theft, the vehicle was immediately seized and transported to the police station,” the statement continued.
Further investigation revealed that “the vehicle belonged to a citizen who, at the time of the incident, was unaware that it had been stolen.”
“The prompt action of the officers allowed for the swift recovery of the vehicle and its safeguarding before the formal complaint by the owner, preventing potential damage or misuse,” it was noted in the statement.
