According to João Paulo Carvalho from the Union of Workers in Agriculture and Food, Beverages and Tobacco Industries of Portugal (Sintab), “half of the trucks did not leave for the streets,” causing “many clients to collect their orders from the warehouse.”
The union leader noted that at the Canelas platform in Vila Nova de Gaia, “13 to 14 people out of 24” joined the eight-day strike, which began on the 18th and ends today.
An official source from Novadis stated that the protest “had an average participation rate of 0.4% of the total Novadis employees.”
As part of the SCC group (Sociedade Central de Cervejas e Bebidas), controlled by the brewery group Heineken, Novadis manages the distribution, technical support, and sales of the group’s brands nationwide, including Sagres beer.
Novadis workers are protesting because the company is the only one in the group not applying the SCC-Heineken Collective Labor Agreement, further accusing the management of “refusing to discuss the claim booklet presented by Sintab,” which includes demands for salary increases.
