Train service disruptions are affecting commuters in Portugal on Monday due to a strike by CP – Comboios de Portugal employees, particularly train conductors. For those who purchase a monthly pass with the intention of seeking a refund due to the strike, it is important to understand that such compensation is not available.
“Even if you hold a monthly pass, you are not entitled to a refund or compensation for the delay or cancellation of the train you intended to travel on,” clarified lawyer Dantas Rodrigues in his segment on Notícias ao Minuto, titled ‘Work and Taxes (Un)complicated’.
The Autoridade da Mobilidade e dos Transportes (AMT) further clarifies this matter:
“Bus passengers are entitled to a refund of the amount paid for the ticket if, due to reasons attributable to the operator, there is a delay in departure exceeding 90 minutes,” as stated on the AMT’s website.
However, this does not apply to strikes.
