During this period, two trains continued to operate under the minimum services mandated by authorities.
Between midnight and 4 p.m., 32 long-distance trains were scheduled, of which four were canceled.
In regional services, 15 trains were canceled out of 137 scheduled.
All 202 scheduled urban trains in Lisbon operated as planned.
In contrast, 24 out of 104 scheduled urban trains in Porto were canceled, while in Coimbra, 15 were scheduled and two were canceled.
The Train Drivers’ Union (SMAQ) is observing the second day of a strike against overtime work, which will continue until Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Itinerant Commercial Review Railway Union (SFRCI) started a strike involving ticket collectors and ticket office workers today.
This strike is partial, taking place from 5 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday. On Sunday and Wednesday, the strike only marginally affects long-distance trains, according to the union.
For this strike, 25% of minimum services have been mandated.
Furthermore, according to CP, no minimum services were scheduled for the first strike period, ending at 8 a.m.
Luis Bravo from SFRCI indicated that train cancellations are isolated incidents, affecting only long-distance trains where workers will rest outside their headquarters.
António Domingues, president of SMAQ, also noted that the impact of the train drivers’ strike is limited since it targets only overtime work. He mentioned that the gradual decrease in the number of train cancellations as the strike progresses was anticipated, as “the strike was designed” to phase them out.
The unions are striking against the imposition of wage increases that “do not restore purchasing power” and are advocating for the “collective negotiation of fair wage increases” and the “implementation of the restructuring agreement on salary scales as negotiated and agreed.”
