
The District Command of Leiria of the Public Security Police (PSP) arrested a 25-year-old student for stealing a car at Lisbon airport.
In a statement sent to newsrooms, the authority reported that “during a patrol operation in the village of Nazaré, the PSP observed strange behaviors from the driver of a vehicle.” In view of the situation, officers on the scene decided to approach the man behind the wheel and discovered that the vehicle in question had been stolen in the Lisbon airport area.
With evidence of a crime, the PSP proceeded to arrest the young man who, during transport to the judicial authority for the imposition of coercive measures, “assaulted a police officer, who required hospital care.”
After the incident, the suspect was brought before court where he “was released” with the requirement to report daily to the police at a station in Lisbon.
The Leiria command also added a note at the end of the statement, committing to remain “vigilant to criminal activities, underscoring its commitment to crime prevention and suppression, contributing to public tranquility, and constantly seeking accountability for perpetrators of various criminal offenses.”
