The deadline for submitting tax declarations has been extended by two days, as announced in a directive signed today by Cláudia Reis Duarte, the Secretary of State for Fiscal Affairs. The original deadline was set for July 20, a Sunday.
This extension allows taxpayers an additional two days to submit their declarations without incurring any fees or penalties, as stipulated in the directive.
The Government decided to delay the deadline due to reports from various accountants, some economic agents, and the Order of Accountants about widespread constraints affecting the submission of these declarations. These issues were linked to the functioning of accounting software and infrastructure.
Although the problems are not attributed to difficulties accessing the Finance Portal or the systems of the Tax and Customs Authority, the recent implementation of two-factor authentication required some adaptations to accounting software, which may have indirectly contributed to these constraints, the directive states.
The extension exclusively applies to the obligation to submit the monthly VAT periodic declaration and does not cover the payment itself, which must be made according to the legal terms, the Secretary of State noted.
Payment to the Tax and Customs Authority remains due by July 25.
The monthly declaration is mandatory for companies with an annual turnover of 650,000 euros or more.
