After several rainy days, the sun is returning to most areas of mainland Portugal, with temperatures expected to rise, according to the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
The IPMA forecasts that mainland skies will be mostly clear, with “periods of heavy cloud in the North and Center regions and some areas of the western coast of the South region until midday.”
Winds will be “light to moderate (up to 30 km/h) from the northern quadrant, occasionally strong (up to 40 km/h) on the western coast and highlands, especially from midday onward, temporarily shifting to southwest on the southern coast of the Algarve in the afternoon.”
A small temperature increase is anticipated, except for the maximum temperatures on the coastal areas of the Center region, where a slight decrease is expected.
Today’s maximum temperatures will range between 35 degrees in Beja, Évora, and Castelo Branco, and 23 degrees in Viseu. Meanwhile, minimum temperatures will vary between 21 degrees in Faro and 13 degrees in Viana do Castelo.
Hot Weather Puts 8 Districts on ‘Yellow’ Alert for Tuesday and Wednesday
The forecast of clear days will continue, leading the IPMA to issue a yellow warning for the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Vila Real, Beja, Castelo Branco, and Portalegre, from 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday due to hot weather.
The IPMA also issued a yellow warning for the southern coast and mountainous regions of Madeira island, from 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday due to hot weather.
A yellow warning is issued when there is “a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the weather situation” and when it is necessary to “monitor the development of weather conditions,” according to the institute.

The alerts will be in effect in these eight districts from 9:00 a.m. next Tuesday to 6:00 p.m. next Wednesday, as per information released by the IPMA.

Three Municipalities at Maximum Fire Risk
This Monday, the municipalities of Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, and Tavira in the Faro district are at maximum risk of rural fire, according to the IPMA, which foresees an increase in this risk in the coming days.
Dozens of municipalities in the northern and central inland areas and the Algarve present a very high risk, while many municipalities in the Alentejo and near the northern coast are at high risk.
The rural fire risk is calculated by the institute based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and precipitation in the last 24 hours, and it will begin to rise starting Tuesday and remain elevated until at least the weekend in some districts.

The municipalities of Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, and Tavira in the Faro district are today at maximum rural fire risk, as forecast by the IPMA, which predicts an increase in this risk over the coming days.
