The proposal to support António José Seguro was presented by the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party and PS President, José Luís Carneiro and Carlos César, respectively.
In the opening speech of this National Committee meeting of the PS, José Luís Carneiro proposed support for the presidential candidate António José Seguro, considering him the representative of the “democratic socialism field” in an “especially demanding time.”
The resolution now approved resulted from a joint proposal by José Luís Carneiro and Carlos César.
In the text accessed by the Lusa agency, which did not receive any votes against, it states that “the support now made public does not affect the freedom that leaders, militants, and supporters have always had and should continue to have in an election with this typicity.”
“The presidential election is, as we know, an election in which candidates and voters decide based on personal evaluation criteria. But it was understood, and rightly so, that in due time and at this particularly sensitive phase in the national political arena, the party should make public its stance on what is at stake,” it argues.
The PS calls for a vote for its former Secretary-General, António José Seguro, “considering him the solution closest to the concerns and values that motivate citizens and movements that claim to belong to the democratic left, such as the Socialist Party.”
