“After implementing relocation support measures in areas identified as having a shortage of teachers, which benefited over 2,800 educators, I am in a position to announce its expansion as of September 1 to all public school teachers,” announced Luís Montenegro at the opening of the state of the nation debate.
Montenegro highlighted the social state as “the pillar of cohesion” and a guarantee that “no one is left behind,” dedicating less than a minute of his initial speech to the health situation.
“We continue to execute the Health Emergency and Transformation Plan, gradually overcoming the numerous constraints accumulated over recent years. We have been strengthening the National Health Service with more resources, more equipment, and accelerating agreements with health professionals to attract and retain them in our health units,” he stated.
The Assembly of the Republic had already approved in March, despite votes against from PSD and CDS-PP, a compensation scheme extended to all displaced teachers, regardless of whether they were placed in schools considered needy due to a lack of teachers, as initially created by the government at the start of that school year.
However, the extension of support, valued between 150 and 450 euros monthly depending on the distance, would only come into effect with the State Budget for 2026, starting in January.
