Presidential candidate Henrique Gouveia e Melo commented on Wednesday regarding António José Seguro’s entry into the presidential race, an announcement made yesterday.
When asked about the addition of another opponent, Gouveia e Melo stated that this development was “very positive.”
“Democracy is the counterposition of people and opinions. It is good to have another candidate bringing new ideas and new discussions. It is very positive,” he remarked to journalists.
Gouveia e Melo was also questioned about Luís Marques Mendes’s statement on Tuesday that the role of President of the Republic “should be held by someone with more political experience,” ensuring it is “neither a vote for the unknown nor a shot in the dark.”
Gouveia e Melo dismissed the notion that the words were a veiled comment, but issued a cautionary note: “If someone needs flashlights, perhaps I can provide them.”
