Surfer suffers head injury at Cova de Alfarroba beach in Peniche

A 38-year-old woman sustained a head injury while surfing on Saturday afternoon at the Cova de Alfarroba beach in the Peniche region.

The alert was raised at 4:21 PM by the on-duty lifeguard, who reported the urgent need to remove a person from the sand.

In a statement, the National Maritime Authority reported that members from the ‘SeaWatch’ Project, the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), Immediate Life Support (SIV), and the ‘Peniche Safer Beaches 365’ Project promptly arrived at the scene.

The Norwegian surfer received medical assistance and stabilization from INEM personnel. The ‘SeaWatch’ Project team, assisted by ‘Peniche Safer Beaches 365’, transported the woman from the beach to the INEM ambulance using an Amarok vehicle.

The victim was subsequently taken to a hospital by SIV members.

On the same day in Sesimbra, a 60-year-old woman was aided following a fall “while bathing in an unsupervised breaking zone” at Moinho de Baixo Beach.

The alert for this incident was given at 1:49 PM, also by the on-duty lifeguard.
