The Faro District Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) announced the arrest of a man following a warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office after “reports of repeated and violent behavior” by residents in a residential area of Faro city.
The crimes under investigation include “simple and qualified thefts, trespassing, as well as crimes of threat and physical injury,” occurring in residential areas of the two Algarve cities, according to the police.
The PSP stated that police efforts gathered “strong evidence of persistent practice” of these crimes, noting that the suspect entered private residential spaces to commit illegal acts, causing “disturbance of the tranquility and safety” of the residents.
The detainee was heard on Thursday in an initial judicial interrogation, during which the most severe coercion measure, pre-trial detention, was applied.
The PSP emphasizes the importance of community reporting of criminal situations, considering it “essential for effective police action, victim protection, and accountability of perpetrators.”
