A 37-year-old man was arrested on Monday, August 18, by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) for the crime of aggravated murder committed in Vila Nova de Gaia.
In a statement sent to newsrooms, the PJ reported that the incident “occurred in the early hours of August 17, in a public area, in a bush zone near the Santos Silva Hospital.”
“At the time, the suspect, armed with a knife, struck the victim in the neck, a 42-year-old man, causing his immediate death. He believed the victim, a homeless man who slept in the area, had stolen some of his belongings,” it read.
The detained individual, who has previous criminal records for drug trafficking, will be presented to judicial authorities for initial questioning to determine the coercive measures to be applied.
A source from the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) confirmed to Notícias ao Minuto that the alert was given at 3:30 AM, and the body was found in a bush on the outskirts of Vila d’Este.
