A 37-year-old man was arrested on Monday, August 18, by the Judiciary Police (PJ) for committing aggravated homicide in Vila Nova de Gaia.
In a statement to the press, the PJ stated that the incident “occurred in the early hours of August 17, on a public road in a wooded area near the Santos Silva Hospital.”
“At the time, the suspect, armed with a knife, attacked the victim in the neck area, resulting in the immediate death of the 42-year-old man, a homeless individual who slept in the area. The suspect believed the victim had stolen some of his belongings,” the statement read.
The detained individual, with a criminal record for drug trafficking, will be presented to judicial authorities for an initial interrogation and will be informed of the coercive measures to be applied.
The Public Security Police (PSP) confirmed to Notícias ao Minuto that the alert was raised at 3:30 AM, and the body was found in a wooded area on the outskirts of Vila d’Este.

According to a PSP source, the man had “several puncture wounds on his body” and was found in a wooded area near Vila d’Este, Vila Nova de Gaia.
