A man has been arrested, strongly suspected of fatally stabbing a 34-year-old man in the back. The suspect is currently awaiting trial in preventive detention, the most severe measure of restraint, following an initial judicial interrogation.
The Judiciary Police announced the suspect’s arrest on Saturday. He was apprehended outside of a blatant offense when he went to the hospital to treat injuries sustained during the brawl in which the victim was killed.
The incident occurred on Friday evening in Rinchoa, Rio de Mouro, following a disagreement between two women in a public area.
The victim, who was at the scene, intervened in the situation. The perpetrator arrived later, after being summoned by one of the women with whom he was in a romantic relationship.
“The two men engaged in mutual aggression, with the suspect armed with a knife delivering a blow to the victim’s dorsal area, which eventually led to his death, despite the prompt assistance from emergency medical services,” stated the Judiciary Police.
The 34-year-old man’s death was declared at the hospital.
The assailant fled the crime scene but later sought hospital care for his injuries. The Public Security Police (PSP) were alerted, followed by the Judiciary Police, who arrested him.
