According to the Azores Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP), a 55-year-old man has been arrested outside of a direct arrest scenario. He is strongly suspected of committing several criminal offenses in recent months, including two vehicle damage crimes, a crime of qualified physical harm, and a robbery, all involving the use of a sickle.
“The weapon, classified as prohibited possession, was seized,” stated the PSP in a press release.
The PSP further noted that “given the factual context and the high danger posed by the suspect’s behavior, potentially escalating to more serious violence,” the suspect was detained outside of an immediate arrest situation with sufficient indicative evidence supporting the charges.
The arrested individual was brought before a judge for an initial judicial hearing and was subjected to the most severe coercive measure, preventive detention, according to the police.
