The detention in Vila Real involved the collaboration of the Working Group for the Reduction of Ignitions in Rural Areas – Northern Inland Zone.
In a statement, the authority announced that the fires occurred between August 5 and Sunday (September 7), during daylight hours, affecting forested areas mainly composed of brush, maritime pine, and oaks.
According to the PJ, the fires also endangered several urban buildings of considerable value, which were spared due to the rapid detection and intervention of firefighting resources, including local residents, firefighters, and various aerial means.
The detainee is set to face a judicial interrogation for the application of potential coercive measures.
In August, the municipality of Vila Real experienced multiple ignitions, the largest of which began on August 2 in Sirarelhos and persisted until August 13, burning an area of approximately 6,000 hectares.
