A 45-year-old man with a criminal record was arrested on Sunday, October 26, by the Public Security Police (PSP) of Faro for crimes of resisting and coercing an officer.
On the afternoon of the same day, the Faro police station was alerted to a man “wandering on the terraces of several homes without the owners’ knowledge or consent,” according to a statement from the authority sent to the newsrooms.
Upon arrival at the scene, the officers spoke with the residents who had seen the man, obtaining sufficient information to “locate the suspect from a distance.”
Noticing the presence of the PSP officers, the man allegedly “fled,” prompting a foot chase by the authorities.
“The individual was again located in an abandoned house, from where he threw a large object at the officers,” the statement continued, noting that the police managed to dodge the object without injury, and the chase continued.
The suspect was eventually intercepted and arrested in a nearby rural area where he was “attempting to hide in the vegetation.”
According to the PSP, the detainee “used the abandoned house as a place to sleep,” where they also found “various objects suspected of being of illicit origin,” with the police suspecting that the man had acquired them through multiple thefts.
