The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) has located, identified, and arrested a 40-year-old man who is strongly suspected of committing aggravated murder and possessing a prohibited weapon that resulted in the death of a 34-year-old foreign citizen on October 29 in Costa da Caparica.
In a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto, the inspectors revealed they were informed of the situation by the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR).
The victim’s body, identified as a foreign citizen working as a courier for Uber, was found on the street with clear signs of a crime.
The PJ reports that after completing his workday, the victim, who used an electric bicycle for his job, parked it at the entrance of his building and went to his residence to fetch a lock. Upon returning, he discovered the bicycle had been stolen.
In response, he and a group of friends searched the surrounding streets for the stolen bike.
When confronting the suspect, who was in possession of the bicycle, the victim was immediately attacked. The aggressor wielded a “large knife,” PJ reveals, inflicting several fatal wounds before fleeing the scene.
The arrested man, described as a drug addict and homeless, will appear today for a preliminary hearing to determine appropriate detention measures.
