Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche invests 598 million in a factory in the USA

The company announced that this investment is part of Roche’s commitment to invest $50 billion (€42 billion) in manufacturing infrastructure, as well as in research and development, in the United States. This is in response to government demands for companies in the sector to lower drug prices and produce locally.

President Donald Trump has urged pharmaceutical companies to reduce drug prices to match the lowest prices offered in other developed countries and warned that measures would be taken if they failed to do so.

Roche reported that the new Genentech factory, its U.S. subsidiary, will participate in the production of the company’s future metabolic drug portfolio, including next-generation treatments for obesity.

“This project is part of our broader commitment of $50 billion to expand our already significant presence in the United States, building on our 120-year legacy of driving innovation and job creation across the country,” said the group’s CEO, Thomas Schinecker, in a statement.

The new facilities are expected to be completed and operational by 2029.
