TACV airplanes forced to activate contingency plan after occurrences

An airline has reported that a team has been assembled to investigate the causes of recent incidents.

“Both aircraft landed safely at Nelson Mandela International Airport in Praia, and all passengers were disembarked according to safety standards. The competent authorities have been notified and are monitoring the process in compliance with applicable regulations,” the airline stated in a release.

The TACV noted that the first incident occurred on a flight between the island of Fogo and Praia, landing at 9:00 local time (11:00 in Lisbon).

The second incident took place on a flight from the island of São Vicente to Praia, landing at 13:00 local time (15:00 in Lisbon).

The airline further stated it “immediately activated” the emergency plan and formed a team to investigate the incidents.

In response to the situation, the carrier admitted to “some disruption in domestic operations in the coming hours” and assured that a flight rescheduling plan is underway.

The company also confirmed it is in contact with affected passengers, providing “all necessary assistance.”

In recent weeks, TACV has faced cancellations of domestic flights, stranding passengers on the islands, due to operational problems and fleet limitations affecting island connections.

Six days ago, the president of the Cape Verde Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies, Marvela Rodrigues, warned about these recurring disruptions, especially during peak periods.

The state-owned company, previously focused solely on international flights, resumed domestic operations in 2024, following issues with the last service concession.
