TACV guarantees domestic flights with Boeing and ship after incidents in two planes

“To ensure the continuity of service and minimize disruptions to passengers, we have been operating with Boeing aircraft for domestic connections and facilitating transport to other islands via maritime routes,” the company stated in a communiqué.

As per TACV, due to operational constraints on Sunday, which led to the grounding of two aircraft responsible for domestic flights, and technical limitations at some aerodromes that do not allow Boeing operations, there are temporary restrictions in the flight schedule.

The two aircraft landed safely at Nelson Mandela International Airport in Praia, and all passengers were disembarked according to safety standards.

On Sunday, an additional flight was conducted between Praia and Sal, and by Monday, two more flights had been carried out between the capital and the island of Boa Vista.

Four flights have been rescheduled, ensuring the mobility of approximately 800 passengers.

For the island of Fogo, TACV chartered a vessel from CV Interilhas, the domestic maritime transport concessionaire in Cape Verde, with two trips scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.

For passengers on the islands of Maio and São Nicolau, alternative solutions are being considered, including the chartering of maritime vessels.

“Boeing aircraft will continue operations on routes to São Vicente, Sal, Boa Vista, and Santiago, where airport conditions allow their operation,” the company added.

Following Sunday’s operational events, TACV “immediately activated” the emergency plan and established a team to investigate the incidents.

In recent weeks, the company has faced domestic flight cancellations, leaving passengers stranded on the islands due to operational issues and fleet limitations ensuring inter-island connections.

About a week ago, the president of the Cape Verde Travel and Tourism Agencies Association, Marvela Rodrigues, warned of the recurrence of such disruptions, especially during peak periods.

The state-owned company, which previously operated exclusively international flights, resumed domestic connections in 2024 after problems were identified with the last concession of the service.
