On December 1, the Lisbon-Luanda route will have its destination at Angola’s New International Airport of Angola and New (AIAAN). However, the first Luanda-Lisbon flight on that day will still depart from the 4 de Fevereiro Airport.
By December 2, the Luanda to Lisbon flight will depart from the new airport.
This transition follows similar moves by other carriers, such as Angola’s TAAG and Emirates, which have already shifted their operations to AIAAN.
AIAAN was officially inaugurated on November 10, 2023, by President João Lourenço. The airport boasts a capacity to handle 15 million passengers annually and manage 130,000 tons of cargo. It is located approximately 40 kilometers from the Angolan capital.
The commencement of commercial flights has begun gradually, initially focusing on domestic routes, with Cabinda being the first destination.
The current main airport of the capital, 4 de Fevereiro Airport, is expected to be gradually repurposed for specialized services as international carriers move their operations to AIAAN.
