Tax workers point to “non-compliance” by the Government

In a statement released today, the STI expressed deep concern to the Minister of State and Finance about the government’s failure to fulfill commitments in the negotiation process related to Decree-Law 132/2019 and its dependent regulations.

The union emphasized that it has maintained a responsible, moderate, and focused stance on solutions that are balanced. According to the union, the initial phase of negotiations concluded in April, trusting the government’s assurance that a new negotiation table would immediately be opened to address issues initially excluded by the government.

However, months later, nothing has transpired: there has been no call for negotiations, no schedule presented, nor any sign of progress, the union lamented, indicating that despite STI’s full readiness, the government has made no concrete steps to honor its commitments.

The union asserted that the lack of dialogue is causing frustration among workers and a clear sense of institutional disregard.

The STI warned that the Ministry of Finance might provoke an unnecessary conflict with professionals who ensure the essential functioning of the state daily. Consequently, in an official letter to the authorities, the STI declared the current situation unacceptable and demanded the urgent opening of the long-promised negotiation table.
