Property owners required to pay the Municipal Property Tax (IMI) now have until the end of June to fulfill their obligations after the government extended the deadline. The key dates for taxpayers to note are as follows:
DECO PROTeste has outlined the essential timeline for the payment of this tax:
June 30: Payment of IMI up to 100 euros
If the tax due is less than 100 euros, it must be paid in a single installment. Typically, this amount must be settled by May 31, but this year, the deadline has been extended by an additional month. Taxpayers who have not received their payment notice by the due date can download it from the Finance Portal.

The government has acknowledged “technical constraints” linked to a “blackout” that delayed the dispatch of numerous payment notices by the Tax Authority (AT).
June 30: Payment of the first installment of IMI over 100 euros
When the annual IMI amount exceeds 100 euros, the Tax Authority automatically divides the payment into installments. The first installment must be paid, exceptionally, by June 30, instead of the usual deadline of May 31.
In such cases, the payment notice includes two payment references. One pertains only to the payment of the first installment. The second reference allows for the full settlement of the tax, should the taxpayer choose to pay all installments at once. Taxpayers can select the payment reference they wish to use.
August 31: Payment of IMI over 500 euros
Only those with an annual IMI exceeding 500 euros are required to make a second installment payment in August. The annual tax amount is divided into three equal parts in these cases. The installments are due by June 30, August 31, and November 30. However, if the taxpayer wishes, they can opt to pay the full tax amount in advance, thus settling all installments early.
November 30: Last installment of IMI
When the annual IMI due is over 100 euros, the final installment is always due by November 30. If taxpayers chose to pay the full tax amount during any of the previous payment notices, no further action is required in November. In such cases, the Finance Portal will indicate the last installment’s payment notice as void.
