Teacher relocation support and overtime will be paid this year.

The Minister of Education assured today that travel support and overdue overtime hours will be paid to teachers by the end of the year with retroactive effect, including a potential adjustment in overtime payments for 2024/2025.

Since October, displaced teachers can request travel support, which may reach 500 euros per month, but this amount has not yet been disbursed, similar to the overtime payments.

When questioned about the delay during a press conference to introduce the Agency for Research and Innovation, Minister Fernando Alexandre confirmed that payments will be made, with retroactive effect, by the end of 2025.

Regarding travel support, the Minister of Education mentioned that the processing of requests is underway but “will be paid this year, always with retroactive effect,” similar to overtime hours.

In addition to payments for hours worked since the start of the academic year, Fernando Alexandre acknowledged that overtime hours for the 2024/2025 academic year could also be paid, due to a correction in their calculation method.

“There is a correction that will have to be made for 2024/2025, resulting from an interpretation of the way the payment was made,” he stated.

Last week, the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) declared that the Ministry of Education acknowledged that the payment must be based on the teaching component, which is 22 or 25 hours per week, rather than 35 hours per week.

Fenprof relied on the revised agreement concerning extra teaching service, available since last week on the Directorate-General for School Administration’s (DGAE) website, to demonstrate that the ministry refers overtime remuneration to the legislation defining the number of hours in the teaching component.
