
A 16-year-old teenager went missing this Tuesday afternoon after experiencing “difficulties in the water” with two other youths at Dragão Vermelho Beach, Costa de Caparica.
The alert was issued at 6:00 pm, prompting the deployment of lifeboat crews from the Cascais Lifeboat Station, as reported by the National Maritime Authority (AMN).
“Upon arrival, it was found that one of the youths exited the water on their own, while the other was rescued by lifeguards of the ‘Protegida Beach’ project, from the Almada City Council,” the statement read.
This victim was “unconscious and was attended to by lifeguards until the arrival of the Cacilhas Volunteer Firefighters, who transported them to a hospital.”
The search for the missing 16-year-old was “immediately initiated at the scene”.
The search operations are being coordinated by the Captain of the Port and Local Commander of the Lisbon Maritime Police, with the involvement of crews from the Cascais Lifeboat Station and members of the Cacilhas Volunteer Firefighters.
Additionally, the Portuguese Navy ship NRP Tejo and an aircraft from the Portuguese Air Force are being sent to the location.
The Psychology Department of the Maritime Police has been activated.
