
A 13-year-old boy was rescued on Thursday by the National Maritime Authority (AMN) and the Volunteer Firefighters of Peniche after showing “symptoms of seizures” on the island of Berlenga, in the municipality of Peniche.
In a statement, the AMN reported receiving an alert at 12:50 pm through the Emergency Patient Guidance Center (CODU) in Coimbra.
Sailors from the Peniche Lifeboat Station, members of the Peniche Maritime Police Local Command, and the Peniche Volunteer Firefighters were deployed to the scene.
Once on site, the firefighters “promptly assisted the victim,” while the lifeboat station crew transported him to the Peniche harbor.
On land, the youth was taken to a hospital by the Peniche Volunteer Firefighters.
The Peniche Maritime Police Local Command is handling the case.
