According to reports in Spanish media, labor unions have indicated that the company has not disclosed the potential number of workers who may be affected by layoffs, with further details expected to emerge during meetings scheduled for November 24.
The employment regulation processes are set to impact seven companies under the Telefónica group, specifically Telefónica de España, Telefónica Móviles, Telefónica Soluciones, Telefónica S.A, Telefónica Global Solutions, Telefónica Innovación Digital, and Movistar+, as noted by the sources.
Unions were informed of the intention to conduct collective dismissals via a company notification concerning Telefónica’s new strategic plan, which aims to reduce operational costs by 25% across various divisions, targeting savings of approximately 2.01 billion euros by 2030.
El Pais, referencing insights from process insiders, reported that the layoffs could affect between 6,000 and 7,000 employees, although these figures might decrease following negotiations with the unions.
Telefónica currently employs more than 102,000 individuals, according to information available on the company’s official website.
