Continental Portugal is set to experience a rise in temperatures starting today, with maximums ranging between 33 and 40°C, with the highest values occurring in the Tagus Valley region, Beira Baixa, and the South.
According to the IPMA, until Wednesday, mainland Portugal will be under the “joint influence of a high-pressure system south of the British Isles and a depression trough extending from North Africa to the Iberian Peninsula.”
This weather situation will increase maximum temperature values, especially from today, and there will be an occurrence of suspended dust originating from North Africa.
Maximum temperature values will vary approximately between 33 and 40°C across most of the territory, albeit slightly lower along some coastal areas.
The highest maximum temperature values are expected in the Tagus Valley region, Beira Baixa, and the southern region.
The IPMA predicts a rise in minimum temperatures today and on Tuesday, considering “probable tropical nights across much of the mainland territory.”
The hot weather may continue until Thursday, particularly in inland regions.
Given the forecast of high temperatures, the Directorate-General of Health advises the public to regularly drink water, wear loose and cool clothing, and apply sunscreen every two hours.
