The band Heart Trio opens the 41st edition of Jazz em Agosto

The Jazz em Agosto festival continues until August 10, featuring 13 more concerts across venues such as the Open-Air Amphitheater, the Main Auditorium, and Auditorium 2 of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

This Friday, William Parker, Cooper-More, and Hamid Drake will perform “music for sunrise and sunset, everyday music, tuned to heal any ailments (more spiritual than physical) through sound,” as they described on the Gulbenkian website.

In the Heart Trio, the three musicians, “longtime collaborators since 2012 in the quartet In Order to Survive,” explore “a connection to ancient African and Eastern music, adopting instruments like the ngoni, shakuhachi, duduk, or self-made instruments, creating hypnotic music with a strong connection to the earth.”
