The party articulated its stance in a response sent to RTP, as accessed by Lusa, following the decision by the AD coalition – PSD/CDS-PP to nominate Nuno Melo instead of PSD leader and current Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, for a televised debate set against BE, Livre, and PAN.
The upcoming debate between BE and AD is scheduled for Wednesday on RTP at 9:00 PM.
Joana Mortágua serves as a deputy and the ‘number one’ candidate for the Setúbal electoral district, as well as a member of the national secretariat of BE.
BE had previously informed the television networks on April 2 that it would be represented by “one of the top candidates” in these debates, reiterating national coordinator Mariana Mortágua’s availability to debate with Luís Montenegro.
Nuno Melo has already represented AD in two televised debates, one against Livre, represented by its spokesperson and parliamentary leader Isabel Mendes Lopes, and another against PAN, represented by its leader and sole deputy, Inês Sousa Real.
The televised debates for the legislative elections commence on April 7 on TVI, featuring Aliança Democrática (AD) and CDU, and conclude with the final debate on April 28, broadcast on RTP, SIC, and TVI, between AD and PS.
In total, there will be 28 debates divided among open signal and cable channels, according to a draw, in addition to two debates to be conducted by RTP.
