The Constitutional Court has already decided and left CDU one vote away from Chega (and there will be a recount)

The Constitutional Court has ordered a recount at a polling station in Lisbon following an appeal involving the CDU and Chega, with the two parties now separated by a single vote.

The recount in São Domingos de Benfica is expected to take place next week.

The CDU [coalition of the Portuguese Communist Party and the Ecologist Party “The Greens”] are currently separated by only one vote: Chega has 26,754 votes, and the CDU has 26,753.

The court explained that in the parish of Santa Maria Maior, a vote initially deemed null will now be counted for the CDU.

Meanwhile, in the parish of Santa Clara, a vote that had been initially counted for Chega has been nullified.

Initial results had shown an 11-vote difference between the parties, but the final count indicated Chega leading by three votes over the CDU. This confirmed the allocation of two councilors for Chega and one for the coalition.

The controversy in São Domingos de Benfica arose when ballots were set aside because the parish assembly ballot did not include a box for voting for Chega. However, the vote count controversy is not limited to Lisbon.
