“The continuity of Pedro Machado in tourism is good news for all those working in the sector,” stated Miguel Quintas, President of ANAV, in a communiqué.
The association highlighted the official’s deep understanding of existing issues and the “good indications given in the last legislature.”
According to Miguel Quintas, these are sufficient reasons to support the reappointment of the Secretary of State.
The association believes that the official will engage in dialogue with all stakeholders, seeking solutions that allow the sector to remain one of the largest contributors to GDP.
The new Ministry of Economy and Territorial Cohesion merges the Secretaries of State from the two previous administrations, excluding the Sea, which is no longer part of the new structure led by Manuel Castro Almeida.
The Secretary of State for Economy will continue to be João Rui Ferreira, according to the list published on the Presidency of the Republic’s website.
Pedro Machado, who led Turismo do Centro for 16 years until 2023, now also takes on the Commerce and Services portfolios in the new government.
He holds a master’s degree in Education Sciences and a degree in Philosophy and has previously served as President of ARPT – Regional Agency for External Tourist Promotion of Central Portugal, and the Regional Tourism Entity of Central Portugal.
Hélder Reis remains as Secretary of State for Planning and Regional Development.
The second government led by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro will have 16 ministries, one less than the previous one, retaining 13 of the 17 ministers from the outgoing executive.
