In a statement provided to Lusa, the leader of EDP praised the coordinated response of the entire electricity sector in light of a demanding situation, emphasizing the essential collaboration between grid operators, producers, and distributors. He remarked that this coordination was exemplary, facilitating the rapid and secure restoration of power supply in close cooperation with the relevant authorities.

The official also indicated that the outage in the Iberian energy system was an unprecedented event, highlighting the critical importance of security and resilience in the electricity supply.

Stilwell d’Andrade commended the “tireless dedication of the technical and operational teams” of EDP in both Portugal and Spain. These teams demonstrated exceptional competence, dedication, and a sense of mission, whether in power plants, distribution networks, or customer service.

A widespread electricity outage disrupted Portugal and Spain, beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, with authorities yet to provide an explanation for the incident.

The blackout resulted in closed airports, transportation and traffic congestion in major cities, and fuel shortages.

Today, the electricity distribution network operator E-Redes confirmed that service has been fully restored and normalized.
