“The country and its citizens do not need survival ‘kits’ from their wars; what they need is a ‘kit’ for a better life, a fair life for those who keep the country running, those who have worked all their lives, and for the youth, which the majority is entitled to,” stated Paulo Raimundo during his closing remarks at the 12th Assembly of the Braga Regional Organization, held at a school in Taipas, Guimarães municipality.
The leader of the PCP described this “better life kit” as the “kit of lives that matter, the kit of solutions making a real difference in what truly counts: people’s lives.”
This week, the European Commission advised European citizens to maintain an emergency ‘kit’ at home with water and food supplies sufficient for three days to address emergencies such as natural disasters, like fires or floods, or human causes like accidents or conflicts. The preparation of the European executive will begin in July, when discussions about the next multi-annual budget will commence.
Raimundo advocated for a “wage shock, housing for living, time to live, play, and educate children. Dignity for those who have worked a lifetime, health for all, only with a strong National Health Service (SNS). This is the ‘kit’ for the better life that is paramount, these are the responses to be given, and this is the commitment of the PCP and CDU, the forces that matter in what matters most: people’s lives,” he asserted.
The secretary-general of the PCP highlighted that the party “will not retreat even a millimeter in the defense of peace.”
He emphasized, “With us, not a cent for war, all money for children, kindergartens, seniors, nursing homes, education, health, housing.”
Paulo Raimundo also criticized the government led by Luís Montenegro, suggesting that the eleven months of the PSD/CDS-PP governance relied on a propaganda machine serving the interests of economic groups, with Chega and the Liberal Initiative consistently supporting it, while the Socialist Party enabled the government’s policies to the utmost limit.
“They are all responsible for the illusion that the country is doing better, for worsening the problems, and for dragging the country into social, economic, and political degradation. The country and the lives of those who work and have worked cannot remain as they are, with sacrifices for the majority while a few economic groups and multinationals concentrate and accumulate more and more wealth,” Raimundo accused.
He stressed the urgency to “put an end to the collusion between political power and economic power and the corruption allied with it.”
“The country already understands that Luís Montenegro cannot explain anything more because there is no plausible explanation for what he did, what he should not have done, and what he should have done but did not. He wanted and wants to ensure at all costs the protection of two matters: his image and the privileges, benefits, and businesses of economic groups,” stated Paulo Raimundo.
