The country needs to have a serious conversation about how to prevent fires

“The country must have a serious conversation about how to prevent fires and a more effective initial attack,” stated António José Seguro to journalists upon entering the Paredes de Coura Festival in the Viana do Castelo district, where he introduced marathon runner Manuela Machado as his representative for the district.

Seguro emphasized that, “in combat time, weapons are not cleaned,” highlighting the need to support families, civil protection, and local leaders to address the ongoing situation.

“There must be a pact between generations. This cannot become the new normal in our country. In October and November, when this scourge passes, we need to have a serious conversation in the country,” he underscored.

When asked about the nationality law, Seguro noted that a President of the Republic comments on decrees, stating he is not “an itinerant commentator who must express an opinion at every moment.”

“Let’s calmly wait for the parliament to review the constitutional norms and draft a new document. I hope it will be a new bill involving all interested parties and respecting our civilizational and constitutional values. In the end, I will express my view,” he remarked.

Regarding the “ongoing issues” with pregnant women accessing the National Health Service (SNS), the candidate expressed hope that “in the future,” solutions will be “found to avoid” these problems.

“Not knowing which door of the SNS is open and available to receive a woman who wants to give birth is unacceptable,” he asserted, at a time when the Minister of Health requested the Inspectorate-General of Health Activities to open an inquiry into a childbirth that occurred in a public space.
