- IUC Changes in 2026 but Some Drivers Exempt: Here Are the Exemptions
The Single Circulation Tax (IUC) will undergo changes in 2026, most notably due to the schedule, as the tax will have a single payment date. However, exemptions are anticipated within the law, allowing certain drivers to avoid paying the IUC to the Tax Authority (AT).
The Automobile Club of Portugal (ACP) provides a guide to all exemptions outlined in the IUC Code.
The government has decided to advance the payment of December pensions, along with the respective Christmas subsidy, according to a social media publication by the executive, similar to the previous year. As such, Social Security pensioners will receive the funds on December 5.
Typically, pensions are paid on the 8th of each month. The executive explains the advance due to this date falling on a holiday:
“December pensions and the Christmas subsidy will be paid earlier: on Friday, December 5. The advance is due to December 8, the usual payment date, coinciding with the holiday,” reads a publication shared by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
This means the payment is “made before the extended weekend,” highlights the executive.
The Special Pension Supplement (SEP) is a “state-funded monetary benefit intended to compensate former combatants, recipients of disability, old age, retirement, and reform pensions, for military service performed under special difficulty or danger conditions,” according to Social Security.
“The supplement value is assigned based on the duration of bonused military service (provided under difficulty or danger conditions) and is paid annually in October,” it is further explained.
The year is ending, and Mercadona is already preparing for 2026 openings. The Spanish supermarket chain announced on Thursday the start of recruitment for the store opening in Vila Real, as previously announced for Beja.
“Mercadona, a supermarket company with 68 stores in Portugal, will open a new store in Vila Real next year. This new store will create 70 new jobs,” reads a statement released by the company.
