The president of the Municipal Company of Belmonte, Joaquim Costa, announced that the closing spectacle of this year’s event will take place at 10:30 PM in the natural setting of Belmonte Castle. Entry is priced at five euros.
For the first time, this edition will see the entire venue enclosed with paid entry.
A general ticket covering all four days is available for six euros and includes a clay mug, while daily tickets sell for two euros.
This year also features a new medieval equestrian gala scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 PM.
The event will host 25 exhibitors across the venue, with various activities and performances planned on different stages.
Joaquim Costa highlighted that what sets the Belmonte Medieval Fair apart, held in the Castelo Branco district, is its constant link to the town’s history.
Past editions have explored themes such as Jewish culture and the Cabral family.
This year’s theme revolves around the Legend of the Soldier’s Fountain, which tells of a noblewoman who defended the castle in a fight with a soldier who lost his head.
The president noted that the event is unique as it allows visitors to explore the town, which he described as an open-air museum full of historical tales.
“Visitors have the opportunity to explore museums, monuments, the synagogue, the medieval area, and the old Jewish quarter. There is always a chance to learn more about Belmonte’s history culturally,” remarked Joaquim Costa in a statement.
Over two decades, the Belmonte Medieval Fair has catalyzed local economic growth and promoted the region throughout the year, according to Costa.
The town’s 400 hotel beds have been fully booked for a while, and demand extends to neighboring municipalities, he noted.
“This boosts the local economy, which is also a significant goal,” he emphasized.
The event kicks off on Thursday at 7:00 PM with a historical parade through the village and the opening of the market.
