The Prime Minister convened the social dialogue for today at 10:00 AM. João Vieira Lopes expressed disappointment, mentioning that previous governments usually coordinated with social partners to schedule social dialogue days. “This Government decided not to do so,” he remarked at the opening of a CCP conference titled “The Future of Europe: European Economic Model and the Exhaustion of the ‘German Miracle'” in Lisbon.
Before leaving the conference, the CCP president noted that he likely would not arrive in time to hear Prime Minister Luís Montenegro’s address at the social dialogue. “I have to be present, especially to present the CCP’s positions or expectations regarding this Government,” he stated.
The Government and social partners meet in social dialogue, formalizing the first meeting with the new executive, which will be presided over by the Prime Minister.
The official meeting agenda indicates there will be speeches from business confederations and trade unions, along with other issues and the presentation of formal greetings, without specifying particular topics.
This marks the first meeting of the social partners in the Permanent Commission for Social Dialogue (CPCS) under the new Government, the second led by Luís Montenegro. It will also feature the participation of the Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho; the Minister of State and Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento; the Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida; and the Minister of Agriculture and Sea, José Manuel Fernandes.
The revision of labor legislation is one of the subjects expected to be discussed in the context of social dialogue, given that the Government’s program includes several measures in this area and the topic was already planned, but the political crisis postponed the discussion.
