In Póvoa de Varzim, in the Porto district, ahead of a walk with regional groups, the leader of Iniciativa Liberal, Mariana Leitão, shared with journalists a response from the Government regarding a request sent in July titled “Anonymized microdata on position, organization, and remuneration of public administration workers.”
This inquiry to Luís Montenegro’s executive sought answers on the number of public employees, their roles, and their locations.
The response, dated Thursday, September 4, stated: “At present, it is still not feasible to provide the appropriate answer due to the dispersion of Human Resources systems within Public Administration.”
Mariana Leitão expressed concern over this response, stating, “The Government has no idea, similar to other areas, about the public employees it has, where they are allocated, and what functions they perform.”
“Just as it doesn’t know this, the State doesn’t know how many properties it owns. The State doesn’t know how many students lack teachers. There is certainly a huge problem that needs to be addressed, which necessarily involves, as we have repeatedly stated, a profound reform of public administration,” she added.
When asked about the steps Iniciativa Liberal will take regarding this issue, Mariana Leitão advocated for the Government to provide those answers and insisted on pursuing this direction.
“It is urgent because only with sufficient information can political decisions be made. Without this information, without concrete data, without knowing the country’s reality, public policies currently being developed may be completely misguided. As we do not know the reality, we are working in the stratosphere, and we need to work on concrete matters,” she concluded.
The Government’s response shared by Iniciativa Liberal further reads: “We are, however, working on two avenues to consolidate information related to Human Resources in Public Administration. On one hand, through the evolutionary development of the State Organization Information System (SIOE), and on the other, through the intent to implement a unified Human Resources Management platform for Public Administration, as stated in the XXV Government Program.”
