A Polícia Judiciária (PJ) has captured images of what was described as the “major laboratory” used by individuals detained in the so-called Operation Black Market. These videos were released to the public today and can be viewed above.
Luís Neves, the National Director of the PJ, explained to journalists that these individuals are “elements who, through trafficking and their practices, introduce these illicit products into the prison environment.”
The laboratory, identified as the “main instrument” for moving products into the prison system, is located in central Lisbon, according to Neves.
“We are satisfied with our work. This is a team effort,” Neves commented.
“Sometimes an image is worth a thousand words,” Neves added. The quantity of product seized in this operation, which resulted in 13 arrests—including two prison guards—remains undisclosed as the investigation continues.
This operation concerns an “alleged criminal project,” involving, among others, prison guards who facilitate the entry of illicit substances into prisons in exchange for financial gain. The charges include “active and passive corruption, drug trafficking, trafficking of prohibited substances and methods, document forgery, and money laundering.”
