The Public Prosecutor’s Office today dismissed the preventive investigation involving former PS leader Pedro Nuno Santos concerning the purchase of two properties in Lisbon and Montemor-o-Novo.
In a statement on social media, Pedro Nuno Santos wrote, “The preventive investigation initiated against me during the electoral campaign has been dismissed, as expected.”
In the same message, the former minister of António Costa’s governments stated he has conducted his private, political, and professional life “with integrity, ethics, respect for others, and the law.”
He criticized ongoing attacks portrayed as truths on social media, emphasizing he never received any undue financial benefits as a deputy.
“My family’s businesses were never favored due to my public office. I have never mixed politics with business and have always despised those who use politics for personal gain,” he stressed.
Pedro Nuno Santos also acknowledged understanding people’s anger and the judgments they make about politicians.
“But we are indeed not all the same,” he added.

According to the dismissal order obtained by Lusa, the Central Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DCIAP) found no evidence of a crime and thus decided against proceeding with a formal inquiry.
The document states, “There is no basis to conclude intentional wrongdoing, much less criminal activity,” noting “there are no grounds to assign responsibility for the situation,” much less to assert that Pedro Nuno Santos and his wife deliberately paid less than the required property tax (IMI).”
The preventive investigation was initiated in April this year concerning the purchase of the two properties, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested further information from Pedro Nuno Santos about a month ago.
