Mercadona stated that “from this logistics block, which involved more than 700 national companies in its construction, the 63 stores that Mercadona currently has in Portugal are supplied,” adding, “along with the one in Póvoa de Varzim (Porto), open since 2019.”

“Currently, Mercadona’s logistics in Portugal are ensured by a team of 1,000 people,” it highlighted.

The Spanish company also mentioned that it “began the construction of the Almeirim block in 2022, on a 440,000 m2 plot, with a total constructed area of about 120,000 m2, consisting of a 49,000 m2 chilled warehouse, a 50,000 m2 dry goods warehouse, a general services and offices building, and a workshop for stores.”

This logistics block has also created 630 new jobs, it noted.

Mercadona also recalled that in 2019, it inaugurated its first logistics block in Póvoa de Varzim, with an investment of 60 million euros, and in 2022, increased “the logistics capacity of this block with a new 12,000 m2 warehouse and an additional investment of 25.5 million euros.”

Mercadona opened its first supermarket in 2019 in Canidelo, Vila Nova de Gaia, and since then, it has invested a total of 1.095 billion euros in Portugal, generating 7,000 new jobs.
