The New Right wants to rescue Lisbon from the “hands of incompetent politicians”

“The objective of this candidacy is crystal clear: it’s to rescue Lisbon from the hands of incompetent, traitorous politicians. Traitors because they hand over Lisbon, evicting locals to make way for outsiders,” stated Ossanda Líber.

The candidate emphasized that the party aims to return the city to its residents, “taking it from politicians who have done everything necessary to ensure people have no homes, poor quality of life, and an unsafe city, forcing them to migrate elsewhere.”

“We want Lisbon for its residents, and all those arriving in the city should respect this condition,” she added.

Ossanda Líber assured that the New Right is committed “to presenting alternatives” for the people of Lisbon, “so they realize they don’t necessarily need to cling to these parties that have over the years only worsened the city’s conditions.”

“It was like this with the PS, with Fernando Medina, and it’s even worse now with Carlos Moedas. There is an alternative, and it’s us, the New Right, and that’s exactly what we want to convey,” she remarked.

Ossanda Líber noted that the party will conduct a grassroots campaign and will present its program on September 6 at the city square.

Meanwhile, she mentioned that if she were president, she would take “that 1,300 million euro budget, which is an excellent budget,” to remove “all unnecessary expenses” to allocate funds “to real needs.”

“Especially regarding urban hygiene, which is visible to everyone. The city is filthy, it’s dirty, it smells bad. The city is unsafe, and we must equip the municipal police to act and have the courage to openly discuss this issue, addressing insecurity without masking the numbers with the public,” she argued.

The candidate identified housing as “definitely the biggest issue” and argued for the need to invest in construction, starting by “de-bureaucratizing the Lisbon City Council, so private developers can quickly obtain the necessary permits,” and for the Council to “promote more social housing and provide conditions for people to have housing at affordable prices.”

“Should the residents of Lisbon give us the opportunity, in four years, the situation will be completely different, which won’t naturally occur if Carlos Moedas remains in power, because we’ve seen that he’s not a man of action, but one of medals and rewards, yet he hasn’t delivered what he promised to Lisbon,” she concluded.

In the current term (2021-2025), the Lisbon City Council is presided over by social democrat Carlos Moedas, who governs without an absolute majority, elected by the coalition “Novos Tempos” – PSD/CDS-PP/MPT/PPM/Aliança.

The right-wing coalition has seven elected members, the same number as the “Mais Lisboa” list (PS/Livre), while CDU (PCP/PEV) has two, and BE has one.

For the municipal elections on October 12, the candidacies announced for the presidency of the Lisbon City Council include Alexandra Leitão (PS/Livre/BE/PAN), Carlos Moedas (PSD/CDS-PP/IL), João Ferreira (CDU), Ossanda Líber (New Right), Bruno Mascarenhas (Chega), José Almeida (Volt), and Adelaide Ferreira (ADN).
