The number of arrests for a brawl at a supermarket in Valongo rises to 13.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of serious bodily harm in connection with an investigation into a supermarket brawl in Valongo, which had already led to the arrest of 12 other individuals.

The National Republican Guard (GNR) announced in a statement sent to newsrooms that “another suspect, a 22-year-old man, has been arrested for the crime of serious qualified physical harm,” bringing “the total number of arrests to 13 for serious qualified physical harm.”

This suspect will appear on Tuesday at the Criminal Instruction Court of Porto for the imposition of coercive measures.

It should be noted that the GNR had already reported that it arrested, also today, “11 men, aged between 18 and 59, and a 37-year-old woman, for serious qualified physical harm, in the municipality of Valongo.”

The incident dates back to September 3 and allegedly took place near a supermarket due to a dispute over giving up a spot in the payment queue. The confrontation resulted in four injuries.

The GNR detained 11 men and a woman suspected of serious qualified physical harm following assaults in a Valongo supermarket over giving up a spot in a payment queue.

After the incident, “various police operations” were conducted, which allowed “the identification and location of the suspects with great speed.”

On this Tuesday, 12 arrest warrants were executed, along with eight house searches. A total of three firearms, 12 knives, 64 rounds of ammunition, 11 mobile phones, and one counterfeit note were seized.

All detainees have criminal records for similar offenses and will appear at the Porto Court for the imposition of coercive measures.

The operation was supported by soldiers from Territorial Posts of Valongo, Trofa, and Vila das Aves, NIC units from Felgueiras, Penafiel, Amarante, and Porto, the Nature and Environmental Protection Service (SEPNA) from Santo Tirso and Porto, the Criminal Information and Investigation Section of Porto, the Victim Support and Investigation Units (NIAVE) of Porto and Penafiel, the Porto Intervention Detachment and the Public Order Intervention Group (GIOP) of Penafiel from the Intervention Unit (UI), and also had the support of the Public Security Police.
